We had some great performances today at our first indoor invitational of the new year. It was a long day at UNC's Eddie Smith Field House, but we came away with two event victories, as well as some school records and state qualifying performances.

For the girls' team, Rayna Yvars lowered her own school record in the 55 hurdles and improved her state qualifying time. Skye Massey also ran strong, setting a new PR and closing in on the state qualifying mark. Rayna also finished 5th in the pole vault. Shewit Weldense lowered her qualifying time with an indoor personal best in the 1600. Mo McDonnell won the 500, breaking the school record in the process and qualifying for states. Sarah Alexander and Jessie Rossabi added qualifying marks in the 1000 with strong performances, while Allie Worsdale came within a second of hitting the qualifying mark. The girls' team closed out the meet with a big win in the 4x400 relay, and got a strong qualifying mark. Mo led off and put us well into the lead, while Erica Amatori and Lauren Colberg added strong middle legs to maintain the advantage. Despite having broken her nose in the pole vault earlier in the day, Rayna came back to run an outstanding anchor leg and held off a hard-charging runner from Wakefield to secure the victory. The girls finished 8th overall as a team on the day.

The boys started off with a strong run in the 4x800 relay. The team of Daniel Glover, Will Jordan, Mahmoud Saad, and Jonathan Arias ran strong and finished within striking distance of the state qualifying mark. Miles Brown recorded a top-10 finish in the 300m dash, improving on his already 3rd-fastest 300 PR in school history. Daniel, Will, Jonathan, and Miles finished off the day for the boys with a very competitive performance in the 4x400 relay, narrowly missing out on winning their heat.
