DAY 1

We had a great first day at UNC in this weekend's meet. There were competitive performances all around, along with three new state qualifying marks and a new school record.

Mahmoud Saad and Corey Colberg ran very well in the 1600 with both guys dipping under the 5 minute mark. Daniel Glover ran an outstanding 3200, coming within just a few seconds of the state qualifying mark with more opportunities to come. Tom Nobles made his indoor debut with a strong run in the same race. The guys' 4x800 relay team of Jonathan Arias, Will Jordan, Ryan Hefner, and Jordan Rawlings closed out the night with a gutsy effort, coming in 7th place and just missing the qualifying mark by 1.6 seconds.

The girls find themselves sitting in first place as a team after day one of the meet. Savannah Lips ran an aggressive race in the 1600, taking 4th in her heat and qualifying for states in her first ever effort in the event. Jessie Rossabi contributed to the point total with a 6th place finish in a very competitive 3200. Like Jessie, Theresa Enright also ran a state qualifying time with of 11:52. Kristen Lospinoso continued her emergence as one of our stronger runners with a great effort in the fast section of the 3200. Rayna Yvars equaled her indoor PR in the pole vault to take 2nd place. In the girls' team's final running event of the night, the 4x800 relay team of Lauren Colberg, Erica Amatori, Sarah Alexander, and Mo McDonnell led from start to finish to set a new school record and qualify for states. The girls clocked the 2nd fastest indoor time in that event in state history, and they also currently hold one of the 10 fastest times in the country this season.

The action continues tomorrow morning at 9am.

DAY 2

The strong efforts continued on Day 2 of the Eastern High School Challenge.

Newcomer Jonathan Arias continued his rapid improvement with a strong effort in the 500. Miles Brown placed 8th in the 300 and ran the 2nd fastest time in school history. Miles and Jonathan joined with Mahmoud Saad and Daniel Glover to run an outstanding 4x400 relay, placing 10th overall in the meet. The boys won their heat and got very close to the state qualifying mark.

Skye Massey ran her best hurdle race of the season and became our 2nd state qualifier in the 55h. Erica Amatori and Sarah Alexander gave strong performances in the seeded section of the 1600. Erica placed 3rd and set a new school record. Mo McDonnell placed 2nd overall in the 1000, while Lauren Colberg and Allie Worsdale set new PR's in the same events. All three girls have now qualified for states. In the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay team of Mo, Lauren, Kaylin Lang, and Rayna Yvars placed 5th. In the overall team standings, the girls placed 2nd.

We head to Winston Salem next weekend to take part in the first ever meet at the brand new JDL FastTrack.
