News: JDL Fast Track High School Invitational
2012
This past weekend, a brand new indoor track venue in North Carolina hosted its inaugural event and we were there to take part. Kristen McEnaney goes down as the first GH athlete to ever compete at the JDL Fast Track as she took the track in 55 hurdle. As a team, we had a tremendous weekend, with new state qualifiers, new school records, several PR's, and an overall dominant performance by the girls' team.
On Friday, Skye Massey improved upon her state-qualifying time with a new PR in the 55 hurdles. Erica Amatori led from start to finish in the 3200, smashing the school record and setting a new personal best time for herself. Jessie Rossabi, Savannah Lips, and Theresa Enright also turned in strong performances in the same race with their times in the 11:33-11:35 range. Corey Colberg and Tom Nobles both set new season best times in the boys' 3200.
On Saturday, the girls' 4x800 entered two strong teams that ended up sweeping the top two spots. The B team of Lauren Colberg, Savannah, Shewit Weldense, and Erica took first while the A team of Jessie, Sarah Alexander, Natsumi Koyama, and Mo McDonnell placed second. In the boys' race, the team of Jonathan Arias, Will Jordan, Mahmoud Saad, and Jordan Rawlings ran an outstanding race to earn a state-qualifying time. Mo came back to win the 1000 in a season best time as she out-kicked the 2010 cross country state champion. In the 1600, Shewit won her heat with a new season best and her 2nd fastest time in the event indoor or outdoor. In the seeded section, Erica took the pace out hard and held on to win the race. Erica once again broke a school record and ran a personal best time. In the final event of the day, both the girls' and boys' 4x400 relays came away with top-two finishes. The girls' team of Mo, Lauren, Natsumi, and Kaylin Lang ran away with the race on the anchor leg to record the girls' 5th win of the meet. The boys' team of Miles, Jonathan, Will, and Mahmoud placed 2nd and earned the boys' team's second state qualifying mark of the meet.
