The boys’ and girls’ track teams split their matchups today, beating Lee County but falling to Apex. Both teams are now 5-1 on the season.

Eric O’Connell led the way for the boys today with wins in both throwing events. Both of Eric’s marks were new personal bests. Also winning for the boys was Corey Colberg in the 1600. In addition to the 1600, Corey ran on the winning 4x400 relay team with Will Jordan, Brad Pehr, and Mahmoud Saad. The guys ran within a second of the regional qualifying mark. Mahmoud, Brad, and Will also ran on the winning 4x800 relay team with Max Blackington.

Rayna Yvars led the way for the girls with wins in the 100 hurdles and pole vault, along with running a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team. Rayna’s pole vault mark of 12 feet set a new school record for outdoor track and equaled her personal best indoor mark. Pauline Schwerbrock set a new personal best of 5’1” in the high jump, and qualified for regionals. Other event winners included Katie Tomasi in the 800 and Taylor Howard in the 3200. Taylor’s 3200 time qualified her for regionals.

The team is back in action this Saturday at the Wake County Championships Invitational at Athens Drive High School.
