News: NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional
2013
We had a great day today at the regional meet with several state qualifiers and some school records.
The boys’ 4x800 relay team of Will Jordan, Brad Pehr, Mahmoud Saad, and Jonathan Bakley became the second quartet in school history to break 8:00 as they took 2nd place and qualified for states. Mahmoud and Brad came back to take the top two spots in the 800 and advance individually as well. As a team, the boys placed 13th in the meet.
In her final meet at the Green Hope track, Rayna Yvars led the girls to a tie for 4th place as a team, placing in four events and advancing to states in the pole vault. Rayna took 2nd in the pole vault, 5th in the 100 hurdles, and ran on a school-record setting relay team. Four other girls qualified individually, including Cassidey Sowards with a new school record in the discus, Pauline Schwerbrock in the high jump, Mo McDonnell in the 800, and Theresa Enright in the 3200. Mo also helped the 4x800 to a 3rd place and state-qualifying finish. The rest of the team included Kayla Hall, Katie Tomasi, and Sheridan Wood. Mo will focus on the 800 at states, and Julia Zwierzynski will move onto the relay team. The 4x100 relay team that placed 5th and broke the school record included Maya Worth, Rayna, Kristen McEnaney, and Danyel de Souza. The record-setting 4x200 team included Danyel, Kristen, Maya, and Brantley Belk.
Thanks to all the coaches, parents, athletes, and volunteers for all their assistance in helping us put on a great meet. We look forward to seeing everyone at the banquet next Sunday, May 19th at school at 1:30pm. It will be a pot luck meal.
