This past weekend, we had 12 athletes compete in the New Balance Nationals Indoor championships in New York City, which draws most of the top high school track and field athletes in the country. Since it is a post-indoor season meet, athletes compete with members of their own school but under club names (in our case, Western Cary Track Club). New school records were set in four events, highlighted by a 2nd place finish by our boys in the Emerging Elite 4x800 relay, and a top ten finish by our girls in the 4xMile relay. Also setting school records were the girls’ distance medley relay and Theresa Enright in the 5000 meters. Green Hope athletes now hold the indoor state records in all three distance relays.

Competitors from this weekend:

  • Boys emerging elite 4x800 relay – Corey Colberg, Will Jordan, Jonathan Bakley, Brad Pehr – 2nd place, 7:58.92 (school record, 5th fastest school in state history indoors)
  • Zoe Early – emerging elite pole vault – 19th place, 11 feet, 1 inch
  • Girls emerging elite 4x800 relay – Brantley Belk, Elisa Sargent, Savannah Lips, Kayla Hall – 26th place, 9:49.42
  • Girls 4xMile Relay – Elly Henes, Theresa Enright, Savannah Lips, Katie Tomasi – 9th place, 21:16.16 (school record, indoor state record)
  • Girls Distance Medley Relay – Katie Tomasi, Brantley Belk, Elisa Sargent, Elly Henes – 16th place, 12:17.64 (school record, indoor state record)
  • Theresa Enright – 5000 meters – 16th place, 18:18.61 (school record)
