Green Hope traveled north to the Virginia Tech Invitational on January 30-31, and the Falcon's sprinters were intent on making a statement. The meet has gained a reputation as one of the best in the Southeast, and schools from up and down the East Coast travel to test the banked curves of the Hokies' Mondo-covered wood track, which is also known for producing fast times.

Friday night opened with Green Hope's distance crew taking the stage in the 4x800. The Lady Falcons finished 7th overall as the team of Elisa Sargent, Kayla Hall, Brantley Belk, and Katie Tomasi turned in a season-best 9:46.40. The boys team followed with their best effort this season indoors, with Brian Huitt, Henry Pehr, Daimon Raper, and Michael Kolor finishing in 8:25.24 for 14th place. Morgan Adams (11th, 11:23.46 PR) and Theresa Enright (13th, 11:36.88) ran strong for GH in the girls 3200m.

It was the sprinters turn to take to the track on Saturday morning. The girls 4x200 relay got things started with a school record. Lindsey Eastwood, Danyel De Souza, Natalie Richards, and Brantley Belk sped to a 1:48.04, which is also a top-10 NC indoor performance so far this season. Not to be outdone, the boys 4x200 team of Austin Jackson, William Hoffmann, Trevor Chin, and Kwabena Sarpong set a school record of 1:32.55. That time is the second-fastest time indoors in NC this season, and was good for 8th in the meet.

In distance events, Elly Henes broke the school record in the girls 1000m, finishing 8th in 2:58.68. Katie Tomasi (7th, 5:18.82) and Kayla Hall (20th, 5:27.45) ran state-qualifying times in the girls 1600m.

The boys 4x400 team closed the meet with a school record, blazing a 3:28.34 behind the efforts of Henry Pehr, Trevor Chin, Austin Jackson, and William Hoffmann. Henry led off the relay just minutes after a stellar 5th-place finish in the Boys Invitational Mile (4:23.39). William anchored for his third race of the day; a 1:08.43 500m dash was sandwiched in between his two relay legs.

Overall, the meet gave the GH coaching staff a good indication of what the Falcons can do at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships on February 14.
