It was a weekend of historical excitement for the Green Hope High School track team. Nine Falcon athletes competed at the 122nd edition of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. This meet draws top high school, collegiate, and Olympic athletes.

The boys 4x800 relay team of Ian Delgado, Henry Pehr, Matthew Kehn, and Jayquan Williams had an outstanding weekend as they won their preliminary heat on Friday with a school record time (7:47.88) to advance to the Championship America final Saturday. In the final, the boys competed against six other American teams and five Jamaican schools. The boys came away with a third place finish overall, and were the top American team after Jamaican schools took first and second. The boys ran six seconds faster than their preliminary time, bettering their school record and also setting a new all-time best for North Carolina (7:41.01). This performance set a new standard of excellence for our track program. The result is a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by these guys and Coach Bochert.

Also completing at Penn were Elly Henes (9th place in the mile) and the girls 4x100 relay team of Paige West, Carmen Curtis, Lindsey Eastwood, and Kayla Foy (24th place out of 250 teams in the large school division). All of our athletes who went to Penn competed well and represented Green Hope extremely well.
