News: Early 2016-2017 indoor season highlights

The 2016-2017 Green Hope Indoor Track season got off to a great start with the Reagan Polar Bear/Dash for Doobie 3200 race in Pfafftown. on November 19. The first group of state meet qualifiers emerged out of the 3200m run. The girls race saw Sarah Taylor, Samantha Kolor, Kelsey Vogel, and Emily Jordan run faster than the qualifying mark of 11:50. Boys who beat the 9:50 state meet standard included Finn McBride, Daniel Vo, Peyton Barish, and Nick Veilleux.

The first indoor meet of the season was held November 22 at JDL in Winston-Salem. Sprinters and jumpers made the trip, with Nevin Foster (boys 500m), Lindsey Eastwood (girls 55m hurdles), and Lily Redick (girls high jump) earning wins in their events. Lily's 5-00 effort in the high jump was a state-qualifying mark.

The Wake County Meet at JDL (12/09) saw the Falcons add several more state qualifiers. Ian Delgado, Finn McBride, and Sean Petersen qualified in the boys 1000m. Nick Veilleux added a 4:30 1600m effort to qualify. Samantha Kolor also bettered the state standard in the girls 1600m. Lindsey Eastwood, Jordyn Parks, Emily Jordan, and Morgan Peele ran a qualifying time in the girls 4x400m relay.

The last meet before the holidays was the second Mighty Explorers Meet (12/16). The boys 4x200m relay team of Blake Watson, Carson Barnes, Sohum Singh, and Will Hoffmann posted a state-qualifying 1:32.00 for the win. Will also won the boys 500m with a qualifying time of 1:06.53. Benjamin Trubey jumped 41-5.5 to earn a trip to the state meet in the boys triple jump. In the girls events, Lily Redick (5-00) won the high jump, and Lindsey Eastwood (1:19.34) won the 500m.
